Seguin will be fine. Recchi will reel him in and he will have every opportunity to play center and to play next to great players like Benn. He will still reach his PPG potential and don't underestimate his defensive game. While still not as strong as the common player in the NHL, Seguin makes smart defensive plays and has benefited from playing under Julien and with guys like Bergeron.

Best of luck to him, I'm excited to see him play Center where he was buried behind Krejci and Bergeron in Boston and never really adjusted to the harder board game on the wing.

I don't think there's anything to be concerned about frankly. Seguin is 21 and was exposed to a winning culture very early in his career. That type of exposure to someone as young as he was can begin to form an ego. Being in a secondary role on a deep Boston team, he didn't quite have to deal with the level of expectations that are conducive with building maturity and character quickly (see Taylor Hall).

Now that he's going to be "the star" on a weaker Dallas team that is in a much more defensively demanding conference and he'll no longer be the young up-n-comer. That role is now with Valeri Nichushkin (a possible linemate of Seguin's). That's not to say he won't have a support system behind him because he most certainly does with the likes of Whitney, Cole. Horcoff, Gonchar, and a couple others. It's sink or swim time, and I'm confident that he'll rise to the occasion.

I believe Seguin is a still maturing 21 year old kid that will learn how to better mesh his on-ice and off-ice personality. In fact, I think he will be helped since the Stars have a growing group of young players which he can interact with.

Glad to see a Boston fan not take an opportunity to downplay Seguin's potential just because he is no longer a Bruin. This is a good trade for both teams and Boston is receiving a highly talented class act in Eriksson who should immediately fit in with a veteran win now team. However, Seguin's ceiling is an elite player who can return to his natural position and become a part of the Star's young core including Benn, Dillon, Chiasson, Nichuskin, Eakin, Ritchie, Stransky, Faksa, Oleksiak, Nemeth, etc. And I believe Benn moving back to his natural LW position will enhance his ability to become an elite player now and should be considered as part of this trades potential!

The Stars are building something special down there and Seguin will be a centerpiece to the team becoming a contender again. The late 90's battles between the Avs and Stars will be renewed.

A first line featuring Benn and Seguin is down right frightening. Find a way to fit Nichushkin in there and that line would be dominant. Benn, Seguin and Chiasson would also look great together if Chiasson continues to play like he was at the end of last season.

What a lousy blog. The writer didn't even bother to mention the Colorado Avalanche as a division opponent. Pretty weak reporting if you ask me. How can you make predictions about where a team might finish in its division, when you fail to even list all the teams in the division?

Hey, don't be so sensitive to what is surely an oversight on Bill's part. Without question Bill is one of, if not the best, blogger on this sight and provides exceptional information for two teams, the Stars and Flyers.

Bill,

Seriously, how is Benn not on the Team Canada invite?
If you were to place odds, what is the chance 14 is not playing in Sochi?
I'd give it a zero chance.

Your thoughts?

Seguin is built for Western Conference Hockey IMO. As for Boston, if you're sitting there at the number 2 draft spot and he is still on the board, you draft him 10 out of 10 times. However, he was never going to fill Boston's need for a scoring winger. The "scandal" always gets overblown with stuff like this by the Boston media. This trade works for both teams period end.

My only lasting concern with Seguin, is Lindy Ruff. Ruff, has swung and missed with developing guys that should've had a bigger impact by now. Guys like Stafford, Roy and Myers for example. If your talent that should be developing isn't, I only hope Nills cuts bait with Ruff quickly.
